What is the Difference Between Digital and Computed Radiology?

Biokinemetrics Digital Radiography (DR)

  • No discs, or additional space needed, everything you need to capture the data is installed in your current bucky. Images are sent directly to your PC.
  • Images go straight to a PC and can be viewed immediately.
  • Produces a higher resolution image with a lower dose of radiation.
  • More expensive up front, less expensive to maintain.

Old Computed Radiology (CR) Technology

  • Requires space to store discs and a processor.
  • Cassette needs to be removed from the machine and taken to a processor where the image is made digital. Requires processing time, though less time than is required to process film.
  • Requires more radiation to get same quality of image as digital radiography.
  • Less expensive up front, but requires ongoing, regular maintenance and replacement parts.

What Kind of DR Technology Should I Buy?

Once you decide to purchase a DR system, the next decision will be whether to invest in one that uses a Cesium Iodide (CsI) or Gadolinium Oxysulfide (Gadox) scintillator. When choosing between the two, it’s important to know that Cesium Iodide delivers 10% less radiation to the patient and produces a 50% higher quality image.

You Can Keep Your Bucky!

With the ChiroSight Digital X-ray System Sensor from MeyerDC, you can convert your current X-ray equipment to DR with one new piece of technology. This eliminates the costs and hassle associated with film, chemicals, film jackets, storage, handling, shipping, and maintenance. The savings from no longer sending out for, or processing, plain film X-rays could add up to several hundred dollars per month.

Upgrade Your X-ray Technology to Ensure Reimbursement

It’s not just patients who expect you to have current X-ray technology. Medicare will begin reducing reimbursements for non-digital X-rays by 20% in 2017. In 2018, reimbursement for digital X-rays using Computed Radiology (CR)—more dated digital technology that requires a removable cassette—will be reduced by 7% and by 10% in 2023. Since insurers often follow Medicare guidelines, sweeping consequences for not using a digital radiography system are likely coming in the not-to-distant future.

More Savings Under Section 179

Under Section 179 of the IRS Tax Code, you can take a deduction based on the full price of a new piece of equipment all at once. This is true even if you finance the product and pay very little up front or on a monthly basis. View our financing page for more information.
