ASTM & FDA Standards

ASTM and FDA standards for gloves help maintain health and safety protocols for anyone at risk of exposure. ASTM standards are used when developing and testing a variety of different personal protective essentials like gloves.

Glove standards determined by ASTM include Expiration Dating, Permeation of Liquids and Gases, Bacterial Efficacy on the Surface of Gloves, and more. In addition to ASTM, the FDA has a Medical Glove Guidance Manual that provides more insight on specific types of gloves on the market.

For more information about standards for medical gloves, please refer to ASTM, the FDA, or the CDC.

How to Don & Doff Gloves

  1. Sanitize the hands.
  2. Choose the glove size that best fits the size of your hand, and insert hand(s) into the glove(s).
  3. Ensure that all surfaces of the hands are covered by the gloves.
  4. To remove, use one of the gloved hands and grasp the palm area of the other gloved hand. Peel off the first glove.
  5. After removing the first glove, slide the index finger of the ungloved hand under the remaining glove starting at the wrist. Peel off the second glove.
  6. Discard the gloves properly, and wash the hands with soap and water for up to 20 seconds. Hand sanitizer may be used if soap and water are not readily available.
